I am not exactly sure what I was expecting from my visit to the Winchester Mystery House, but I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed in my visit.
The tour went into great detail about the life and bizarre thoughts of Mrs. Winchester. I have more details and more photos on my flickr site. (Click anywhere, and it should take you to my flickr site.) I enjoyed the fact that she was obsessed with spiderwebs and the number 13, with numerous occurrences of repetition throughout the house. I loved that she was so innovative in house features.

I was hoping to hear more about the paranormal, rather than the obvious features of the house. Yes, I can see this staircase leads to nowhere, and I can see the window in the floor, as a matter of fact, I saw all of this online before the tour.
I wanted to hear WHY this door leads to an 8 FT drop into the kitchen. WHAT did these spirits do to her? WHAT proof do we have from these spirits? HOW did they talk to her? Tell me a story that will make me shutter! They do have flashlight tours a few times per year. I would recommend that to maybe get your heart going!
Another disappointment was that the furnishing were not original to the house. The original furnishing were given to her niece. So the bed that she "died in" was not actually the bed she died in, but a bed similar to that time period that is in the room that she died in.
Disappointed? Yes, I was. Do I regret my visit? No way! I am so happy I visited the estate. I LOVE victorian decor. I love mysterious ghost stories. I love photography and I'm also a sucker for tourist traps. I encourage you to visit the House if you want, or if you would prefer, save yourself $20 and look at my photos!
