I like folders and office supplies.

But You Have to Draw a Line Somewhere.

I'm on the cusp of three years at my current job. I'm a creative. I have organizational tendencies, but am not anal about it. (This introductory sentence is pretty weird, huh?) What I'm saying it that I like folders and office supplies. I like to use them to keep myself on track and to make me feel good about myself.

I have a new office at work, and it is much more spacious. I feel really excited and motivated to start fresh and new. My biggest task with the move is weeding out the drawers of files that have accumulated over the 5 years that this position has been in existence. I am not sure who, where, or why some of these documents require a folder, but I'm also afraid of tossing something I will regret. In the past, I figure it is easier to push them to the back of the drawer, than to decide if they are worth it. However, with the excitement of the new space. I'm going to tackle this project!

I really question how busy the past graphic designer was. No, actually I have a pretty good idea. For instance, the job title was "Desktop Publisher" I believe that, right there, is enough to help me understand why they had time to TYPE every folder label. Really... who does this? Is there any graphic designer in the world that types the labels for their files? I'm talking folding files, hanging files, everything. Gag me.

Seriously, who needs a file folder called Voice Mail?

Musée Méchanique

Welcome to my photo journey of one of the creepiest places ever. Musee Mecanique is a collection of antique arcade games and musical instruments. It is physically located on Pier 45 in Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. But I firmly believe that this place is straight out of the Twilight Zone. If Tim Burton and Rod Serling had a baby, it would look like this place. Fabulously Creepy.

Meeting Notes

We had a follow up meeting for our social media group here at work today. Three of the managers were not present. I think I did a good job taking notes.

Setting Your Facebook Vanity URL

You've made the page, You've told your friends and family to "like" the page, and now you are ready to TELL people your url. Unfortunately facebook urls are not very attractive, with a long list of numbers, symbols, and letters. How can you get a snazzy url, like:

Here are 5 simple steps.

  1. First, you must have 25 people that LIKE your page. (If you don't, scroll to the bottom and I'll tell you how to get more people to LIKE your page.)
  2. Visit www.facebook.com/username. Click "Set a username for your pages" You can also set a username for your personal profile here as well.
  3. Select the page you would like to set the url for. If you have several pages your are the admin for, they will all show up here.
  4. This page allows you to check the availability of urls for your page. Be careful on this part. Once the url is set, it can not be changed. If you make an error in spelling, you are going to be stuck with it. Please take your time!
  5. If you desired url is available, CONGRATS, you now have a vanity url! There may be one more button to confirm. If it is not available keep trying until you find one that works. You will not be able to change your url once it is set.
What if you don't have 25 'fan' yet? Ask your friends, co-workers, and family to click that like button. :) Beg, buy them dinner, whatever you have to do.

Good luck, and as always- please let me know if you have a specific question that I can answer. While we are at it- visit my facebook page and click that like button!

Michael Day Benefit

Raising Money For The Fight Against Muscular Dystrophy

7th Annual Benefit Poster by Micklynn Designs
I am happy to work with this amazing family. Please read this article and let me know if you'd like more information on how you can help.
Hey All,
Hope this email finds all of you well in 2010! Our Michael Day Benefit is in full swing, so you know what that means…….ENCHILADAS
I know that many of these fundraisers have gone around Wellington since last year, but this one is different than the others. Tudy has vowed to donate ALL proceeds made with this fundraiser entirely to our event. So, your money you spend on this wonderful food will be donated entirely to our cause!!

For those of you that need some background information: Michael Day was my brother and was afflicted with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He lost his battle with his disease in 2003 at the age of 21 and since then, we have held this benefit in his memory. To make the story even more personal, in 2005 we found out that my 7 year old son Ethan also has this same devastating disease. What started out as an event in memory of Michael, has turned into our HOPE for Ethan. We appreciate the support you all have given us over these last years!!
Great Food - Very Good Cause

In the last 7 years, we’ve donated over $50,000 to MDA of which a majority of that money has been through this enchilada sale because you all love Tudy and Neives’ food so much!! This year, Tudy has given us a goal of selling 500 dozen enchiladas! With your help, I think we can do it!

I’ve attached information on our pricing for this year. Email me back with your order. Please feel free to forward this email to as many people as you think might be interested. We will take business group orders together and will deliver these business orders at the same time. If you have a group of co-workers that want to order, please take the orders and send one email with everyone and we will deliver them to you instead of you having to pick them up! Isn’t that great service?!

I’ve also attached a flyer for our benefit on Saturday, August 28th. If you aren’t busy, please come out and check out the bands this year! We have 3 great bands including a country band, a blues band and a rock/alternative band. A band for everyone’s taste! Everything we make on this day is donated to our cause.

Again, we appreciate your support!!

Thanks again,
Stormie Higginbotham

Don't Cry Over a Flooded Bathroom

We checked in to the Hyatt Regency, St. Louis. We are on a limited time frame. It is 7:00 and getting dark, we need to see the Arch! We get to our room and it is great.

Awesome contemporary decor and a view of the Mississippi and the Arch. Everything I needed to have a successful trip to St. Louis.

A quick potty before we take off for the park, and things go awry.... water is everywhere.  By the time maintenance can get up to the room. Water has covered the bathroom floor, has traveled out into the room, through the hallway, and is knocking on the other room's door.

We get a key for a new room right away. So just hope we still get a view of the Arch. We are blown away by the size of the room.

I think you can say we got a pretty good view of the Arch...

And of downtown... You can see the ball field from here too!

Wow! What a crazy day it was. Looking forward to seeing what is across that Mississippi!

:) Thanks for reading- Michelle

Hocus Pocus Focus!

I have several things I'm passionate about, and I am pretty much scatterbrained most of the time. I'm working to focus on each area more and help to develop them.

So far I have segmented out my dance passion and focused on opening a Michelle's Encore Dance Studio. All is going great. I'm much more effecient with my time concerning dance.

Now it is time to focus on my design work. I want to get more freelance business, but to do that I need to organize my portfolio. I will be adding more over the weekend and as I find the best way to showcase old, printed pieces.

Just wanted to share my plan with everyone to hold myself accountable for organizing my life. Technology is great! Without the use of the internet, I would continue to have stacks of "things" just incase in my home office.

Next on my list: Brush up on my photography and learn to create websites.
